IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League, Bridestowe were at home to Horrabridge A. Chloe Greenaway put Horrabridge ahead with a fine win against Mark Fogerty. Bridestowe then stepped up a gear winning the next eight singles. John Stewart did well to take Francis Griffiths to four legs and then in his last singles, just lost out to Mark Fogerty 12-10 in the fifth leg.
Mark Tancock and Mark Fogerty won the doubles, Chloe and John Stewart 11-9 in the fifth leg for a 9-1 win for Bridestowe.
Anchorage A's Malcolm Hopkins won the first against Sarah Jackson and Colin Brooker beat Roni Gallardo, but Sam Drew won the next for the mixtures against Colin Jones. Colin Brooker had to pull out all the stops against Sarah, just winning in the fifth leg to put Anchorage 3-1 ahead. Colin went on to score a fine maximum.
Roni did well to beat Colin Jones 11-11,11-8,1-13 and 10-12. Sarah won the next 13-11 in the fourth against Colin Jones and Roni won her singles in the last against Malcolm Hopkins.
Malcolm and Colin Brooker won the doubles against Sarah and Roni for a hard fought 6-4 win for Anchorage.
In the next match Milton Abbot took on North Wyke A. Xubo Chang put North Wyke ahead against Ian Osborne. Tim Westcott won the next against Mark Tooth and Ottilia Pochat beat Enrique Barrota Milton 2-1. Xubo just beat Tim 11-7, 14-16, 11-7, 5-11, 7-11 to draw level. Xubo completed his maximum against Ottilia 15-13 in the fourth leg.
In the last singles Ian pushed Mark to a fifth leg decider, Mark winning 11-9. Tim and Ottilia won the doubles against Xubo and Enrique for a 5-5 draw.
Tavistock are still keeping the pressure on second-placed Bridestowe with a hard fought 8-2 win against Okehampton A. Peter Hicks was pushed to a fifth leg decider against John Squire just winning 11-6 in the fifth leg. Steve Tyler won the two singles for Okehampton, firstly against Nigel Geldart and the second against Peter Hicks. Roger Bowkett scored a fine maximum although John Squire pushed him to a fifth leg decider in the last singles, just losing 7-11. There was also a fifth leg win in the doubles for Tavistock for the 8-2 win.
The next was a 10-0 win over Horrabridge A. Peter Hicks was taken to five legs by John Stewart in his last singles just winning 13-11.
In the next match Horrabridge A played Okehampton A. Chloe Greenaway won the first against Tom Pengelly and John Stewart beat John Squire to put Horrabridge 2-0 ahead. Chloe and John won their second singles against Sam Drew. John and Tom won two singles to level at 4-4. John Squire won the last singles against Chloe and joined Tom Pengelly in the doubles beating Chloe and John for a 6-4 win for Okehampton.
The last division one match was the mixtures. Tim Westcott won the first against Roni Gallardo and Ottilia Pochat put Milton Abbot 2-0 ahead and went on to score a fine maximum. Sarah Jackson won the next against Michael Blatchford and Karen Stephenson beat Tim to level at 2-2. Roni beat Michael to go 3-2 ahead but Milton Abbot leveled at 4-4 and won the last singles and went on to win the doubles for a 6-4 win for Milton Abbot.
In division two North Wyke B were at home to Anchorage B. The team of Dave Vanstone, Roger and Jenny Gilbert were too strong for North Wyke and ran out 10-0 winners to keep them second in the league.
The last division two match was Horrabridge B at home to Gunnislake A, who raced into a 4-0 lead before David Stewart pulled one back beating Michael Alexander. Horrabridge won the next three to lead 7-1 but ill Northey did well to beat Michael Alexander in the last singles 14-12. In the fifth leg Mike Kinger scored a fine maximum against Jack Flockton with two singles. Gunnislake won the doubles for a good 8-2 win.
