IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league Mark Tancock put Bridestowe 1-0 ahead against home team North Wyke, beating Steve Granger. Enrique Cancer Barrota won the next against Phil Down. Francis Griffiths beat Jill Whitley for 2-1 to Bridestowe and Mark Tancock won the next and went on to score his fifth maximum of the season.
Steve Granger won another and Enrique his second as Bridestowe won the next two singles and the doubles for a 7-3 victory.
Okehampton B played Horrabridge A. John Stewart for Horrabridge A beat Nick Jackson in a hard fought five setter and went on to win the next two for another fine maximum. Nick, Ronni Gilardo and Zoe Bennett all won two singles each for Okehampton. Nick and Zoe won the the doubles for a 7-3 win to Oke B.
Horrabridge A played the league leaders Tavistock. John Stewart beat Mark Bennett in the first game and Chloe Greenaway beat Peter Hicks 11-9 in the fifth leg to put Horrabridge A 2-0 up. Roger Bowkett pulled one back against Brendon Seward and Mark levelled to make it 2-2 against Chloe. John won his second against Roger and Peter won the next two in the last singles. John completed his maximum against Peter. Roger and Peter won the doubles for a hard fought 6-4 win for Tavistock.
In division two Anchorage A played Okehampton D. Luke Bennett did well to beat Colin Brooker in the first; Colin Jones pulled one back against Frank Cockburn to level. Marie beat Dave Wilson and both Colins to score a good maximum. In the last two singles Dave beat Luke and Colin Brooker beat Frank to lead for the first time at 5-4. Colin Brooker and Colin Jones won the doubles for a hard fought 6-4 win to Anchorage A.
Two young teams, Okehampton E and Milton Abbot B were next. Milton Abbot B went 2-0 ahead when Tom Doidghe beat Eli Holt and Ang Harod Beman beat Connor Madge. Ang went on to win her next two games for a maximum; Tom and George Anderson won a singles each for Okehampton E. Ang and Tom won the doubles against Eli and Connor for a 8-2 win for Milton Abbot.
Milton Abbot A took on the much stronger Okehampton E who raced into a 3-0 lead. Luke Bennett beat Tom Doidge, Frank Cockburn beat George Anderson and Mari Baldwin beat Ang Harod Beman. Milton Abbot won the next two - Tom beat Frank and Ang beat Luke. With the score at 4-3 Oke D won the last singles to lead. Mari secured a fine maximum against Tom and Luke beat George Anderson while Mari and Luke won the doubles against Ang and Tom for a 7-3 win for Okehampton E.
Also in division two Gunnislake were at home to Anchorage B. Michael Alexander won the first against Dave Vanstone; Dave Wilson did well well to beat Michael Kinger to level. With the score at 4-3 to Gunnislake Dave Vanstone beat Jack Flockton in a hard fought five leg win — Jack winning the first two legs before Dave stepped up a gear to win the next three.
Dave Wilson won the last singles against Michael Alexander to lead 5-4 and joined Roger Gilbert in the doubles, beating Mike Kinger and Jack for a hard fought 6-4 win for Anchorage B to keep them second in the league.
