IN the Okehampton and district table tennis league, division one Bridestowe were at home to The Mixtures.

Mark Tancock put Bridestowe ahead against Sarah Jackson but Steve Tyler levelled against Francis Griffiths and Karen Stephenson put The Mixtures 2-1 ahead against Phil Down. Then it went end to end to leave the match at 3-3. Bridestowe won the next three singles and doubles for a 7-3 win — Mark Tancock scoring a fine maximum.

Tavistock scored another 10-0 win against North Wyke to go 22 points clear at the top of the table with Fred Phillips, Martin Fowler and Roger Bowkett all scoring maximum.

The Mixtures played Academy A — George Haskell did well to beat Karen Stephenson in straight sets to lead 1-0. Sarah Jackson lost out in five sets. Steve Tyler won the next in a hard fought five setter match against Tom Pengelly, winning 11-9 in the fifth. Academy won the next two before Steve won his second singles against Ben Hill. Academy went on to win the next three singles and the double for a 8-2 win. Steve Tyler made George Haskell work hard to keep his 100% record taking him to four legs in his last singles.

In division two this week, Milton Abbot A were at home to Okehampton B. Michael Blatchford played young Harry Bryant who was taken to a decider, winning 8-11 in the fifth set, to put Okehampton 1-0 ahead. Tim Westcott beat Kieran Coyle in four to level it 1-1. Dick Randell put Okehampton ahead again when he neat 10-year-old Heath Marken in four legs. Okehampton took the next three singles. Tim Westcott beat Dick in the next singles for 6-2 to Okehampton. Harry Bryant completed his sixth of the season and young Keiran Coyle won the last singles in five legs against Blatchford. Michael and Tim won the doubles against Harry and Keiran to take their 100% doubles record.

Also in division two, Moretonhampstead took a 2-0 lead against Horrabridge, before Bob Newcombe beat Richard Underhill. Moreton went on to take the next four singles, the last Brian Skilton beating Jill Northey 3 sets to 2, for his second maximum of the season. Ken Underhill and Brian won the doubles five sets against Gill and Bob for a 8-2 win for Moreton.
