THE first of two Tavistock Wheelers Brentor Road Races took place on Easter Sunday, culminating in a fine fourth place for local rider Phil Collings from the Tavistock Wheelers North Shore Gallery team.
More than 60 riders took to the start line, after leaving from the event headquarters at CHICKS Moorland Retreat in Brentor Village, to complete nine laps of the gruelling Brentor circuit.
There were strong performances from other Tavistock Wheelers; Dan Strong, Gavin McDougall and Mark Pierce all finished in the main group, which was down to about 25 riders by the finish.
Peter Foubister, race organiser, said: ’To stage an incident free race, with virtually no disruption to traffic on an Easter Sunday, says a lot about the army of volunteers involved. To have local success in the race with a Tavistock Wheelers rider was the icing on the cake.’
The second race in the series takes place on Sunday, May 28.
