Devon B Tavistock v Braunton WELL clear at the start of the second half of the season, the Tavistock team talk was about not being complacent. The intensity and quality of the warm up suggested this message was understood. Having won the toss Braunton were asked to bat first. The home side's order of the day was to use the new ball well, get it swinging, attack the stumps and take the catches. At 24-4, with good slip catching, swing bowling and fielding, Tavistock were in a strong position. Lee Baker was certainly in the groove with figures of 9-2-16-3 of controlled left arm swing, and Thokozani Peter punished the visitors with his 3-38. While the spinners found it harder to contain the batters, good discipline paid off with Braunton all out for only 152. Jamie Stephens' bowling of 2-29, five good catches and a run out rounded off the disciplined fielding performance from Tavistock. The Tavistock batsmen played with freedom but concentration in chasing down the total. Aaron Churchill with 25, Ian Gray 26 and Dave Manning 23, all had starts before getting out, but it was skipper Shaun Daymond batting at three with a fine knock of 40 not out and the big hitting Sean Cleave who completed victory within 30 overs. This was another fine performance from Tavistock, securing maximum points.

Devon seconds B Braunton seconds v Tavistock seconds Tavistock took the long trip to Braunton on Saturday hoping to ease their relegation worries. The West Devon side lost the toss and were put into bat. Sam Willets showed his intention by hitting the fourth ball for six and along with Andy Gavlen ensured a steady opening stand. The loss of a couple of quick wickets set the side back but young Callum Worth stepped up to the plate with an excellent 37. At the tail end of the innings Matt Anderson added a rapid 27 with 3 sixes to ensure a competitive total of 171. With a strong bowling attack Tavistock set about removing the Braunton batsman. Mark Hopkins was his usual difficult to get away self. He along with Wayne Downham made early inroads, while the introduction of Sam Willets and Callum Worth ensured no respite for the Braunton batsman. They picked up five wickets between them causing the home team to fold up for 121 giving Tavistock a win by 50 runs. A special mention should go to 15 year old Tom Cotter, Tavistock's wicket keeper, who took two catches and is improving with every game.
