AROUND 20 runners ran through the rain to take part in the Burrator charity run this weekend, raising money to help disadvantaged families. The run was organised by Tavistock bin man Gary Fielder, who was offered a place at next year’s London Marathon to run for the Family Holiday Association.

He needs to raise a minimum of £1,700 and organised the run around Burrator Reservoir to help with fundraising, as well as planning a number of other events, including a raffle and a table top sale. The Family Holiday Association is a national charity that provides breaks and day trips for families coping with some of life’s toughest challenges.

Gary was joined by friends and fellow bin men from FCC Environment for the run and although the money is still being collected, he expects to have raised around £500 from the event.

Gary said: ‘This charity is very close to my heart and is not very well known which is why I wanted to raise money for them. I would like to say a massive thank you to the management at FCC Environment and all my colleagues, friends and family for all of their support on the day.’
