The achievements of the 2018/19 season were celebrated by Tavistock Swimming Club members, parents and coaches at their annual presentation evening last week in Tavistock Town Hall.
The club welcomed Mayor of Tavistock Anne Johnson and her consort Paul Johnson to share in the celebrations and help present some of the trophies to the successful swimmers.
Over the season the swimming club hold their own club championships at their home pool, Meadowlands. All club members were invited to take part in sprint and long distance events and medals were presented by head coach James Lake. Newer members to the club took part in an Imps time trial earlier this month and ribbons were also awarded by James on the evening.

Other trophy winners chosen and awarded by Devon Coach of the Year James Lake and his team: Best newcomer, William Hamilton; best junior club swimmer, Herbie Higham; best senior club swimmer, Harriet Hayley; most improved junior girl, Elsie Maguire; most improved junior boy, Matthew Hamilton; most improved senior girl, Orla Maguire; most improved senior boy, Samuel Rice; best junior girl, Evie Palmer; best junior boy, Harry Pearse; best open water swimmer, Sam Palmer; best in training, Holly Harvey; best squad swimmer, Charlotte Walker; best relay team, 13U girls’ freestyle relay team (Cara Mcveigh, Hannah Walker, Amy Roberts, Orla Maguire); best overall swimmer, Cara Mcveigh; most worthy, Isla Garrett; masters’ swimmer, David Hopes. Swimmers own choice, girls’ Amy Roberts; boys’ Samuel Rice.
The coaches’ own choice trophy was awarded to club president Sue Dunstan for her constant, unwavering support of the club on poolside, around Meadowlands and her work behind the scenes on welfare and administrative tasks. Sue has been involved with the club since its early beginnings 29 years ago.
The final presentation was the announcement of the new club and vice captains for the year – club captain Emily France; vice captains Amy Roberts and Sam Palmer.
The TSC committee and coaches would like to say a huge well done to all the swimmers on their achievements last season, however big or small, whether it was taking the plunge and competing for the first time in its club championships or excelling and progressing to county, regional and mational level.
