MEMBERS of Bere Alston Trekkers hung up their lycra and trainers last weekend and pulled on their posh frocks, shirts and some exceptionally high-heels to attend the club’s annual presentation evening in the village parish hall.

As the past 12 months have whizzed by so have the number of miles run by club members with events ranging from three miles to 100 miles and over every terrain imaginable, some, even, in the dark.

The presentation evening is a chance for BATs to come together to recount races run, celebrate successes and to ponder what will be run in the next 12 months. Awards:  Male newcomer Andrew Bowden; female newcomer Laura Hogan; male BAT of the year Steve Hill; female BAT of the year, Mel Greaves; club member of the year Martin Head. Coaches’ athlete of the year, Sally Dunn. Committee awards: Improver of the year Natasha Ayres, Hilary Head and Mel Greaves. The BATs chair award, which is awarded by Dotty King, went to Natasha Ayres for her outstanding efforts with the New York Marathon.

Special mention was made of Paul Mingo and coaches Murray Turner, Laurence Sergeant, Derek Hicks and Martin Head were thanked for their efforts during the last 12 months.

The club now looks forward to 2016 and already have in the calendar the BATs’ Big Breakfast in January, hosting Sport Relief in March and the Bere Pen 10k in May. BATs say a big thank you to family, friends, the Times and villagers of the Bere Peninsula for their continued success.
