DESPITE a shocking weather forecast, a team of 13 Bere Alston Trekkers turned out for the annual Tavy 13, half marathon road race in Tavistock on Sunday.
Fortunately, the rain did not materialise so the runners only had to battle the strong winds making the hard race, even harder.
The course takes in Tavistock and then progresses onto the moor for a scenic section near Pew Tor and across Whitchurch Down followed by a fast descent into Tavistock and back to the finish at the college.
Results for Bere Alston Trekkers were: Chris Anthony 1hr 38mins 46secs, Julie Page 1.58.30, Martin Head 2.02.45, Laura Newton 2.06.55, Matt Luckham 2.07.49, Fran Morgan 2.12.59, Ralph Elmes 2.14.27, Alison Greaves and Laura Hogan 2.19.36, Lisa Birch and Mel Greaves 2.20.07, Hilary Head 2.56.06 and Ann Woodhouse 3.03.59.
Despite having participated in numerous half marathons this was Hilary Head‘s first road half which resulted in a distance personal best by more than seven minutes.
Ann Woodhouse also came first in her age group.
