ON Saturday, solo lady Bere Alston Trekker Fiona Maddock took part in the Plym Trail Marathon Series 2018 organised by ‘Firstandlastrunning’.

This event is held within an AONB within the Dartmoor National Park and enjoys stunning views of forests and valleys.

The route follows cycle route 27 over the historic former railway between Coypool to Clearbrook.

Fiona opted for the half marathon distance and was rewarded for her hard efforts by a distance personal best of 9 minutes 32 seconds when she crossed the line in 2 hours 36 minutes 25 seconds.

On Sunday, the BATs sent down a team over the border to take on Storm Force 10, a 10-mile road race organised by Carn Runners. This fast undulating route heads out of Camborne through Barripper and Carnhell Green towards Leedstown before turning back on the Praze road, returning back to Carnhell Green and Barripper before coming back into Camborne. There is a fast finish to keep the excitement going to the final stages of the race. Storm Force 10 is the first race of the year in the Cornish Grand Prix calendar and attracts a good entry of high calibre competitors.

Completing the course for the BATs this year were Dave Adams 1.25.07, Lisa Birch 1.37.22, Alison Greaves 1.37.22, Pam Adams 1.39.53, Mel Greaves 1.40.31 and Sam Harte-Latremouille 1.42.27.

Many club members have been involved in less high profile, but nevertheless very committed running by participation in ‘RED January’ with a good number of members embracing the cause. RED January is a fitness movement that seeks to shine a light on mental health issues and challenges participants to ‘run every day’ throughout January, raising awareness of, and funds for mental health charity MIND. Jo Bourton, Debbie Ashton, Sarah Bartlett, Sam Hart-Latremouille, Lisa Birch, Heather Lee, Hazel Bickley, Karen Bradfield, Pam Adams, Eleanor Ralph and Nic Munday have been out pounding tarmac and trail in all weathers so far this month.
