LAST Sunday saw a team of Bats (Bere Alston Trekkers) pull on their off-road shoes again to take part in the Oh My Obelisk multi-terrain race.

The tough, 11.5 mile course takes in lanes, woodland trails and open fields.

The outward leg contains a few undulations, however, it is mostly a punishing uphill slog made even more draining by thick mud underfoot.

This year runners were diverted around the woods and up the very, very steep road to the Obelisk that inspired local running club the Dawlish Coasters to create the event,  where the easier although still muddy descent to the finish begins.

First male Bat home and first in his age group was Laurence Sargeant and first lady Bat home and second in her age group was Tracey Oxborough.  Five of the Bats running were making their Obelisk debut.
