BERE Alston Trekkers members Dotty and Phil King managed to squeeze eight runs in during their honeymoon in America, proudly taking their Bats vests stateside.
Their first run was in San Francisco where they ran part of the city before running across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The next run was a very hot, early morning trot along the Vegas Strip which was followed the next day with a run around part of The Grand Canyon.
As they travelled they climbed and by the time they ran some of the famous Route 66 in Williams City, Arizona they were running at 8,000 feet and starting to struggle with not only the heat but the high altitude.
Undeterred and wanting to record each of their runs, it was on to Colorado and a run along the Spanish Trail in Monte Vista.
All of the runs were early morning and with one night stops at most places it was also best to start early to ensure that the daily destination was reached so there was a quick five miler in Wichita and then a more leisurely run around Memphis with the local running club, finishing with a longer run around Central Park in New York.
The Bats are also running a competition this year entitled 'Where's Batty' which includes prizes for the furthest travelled and most obscure place to find a Bats vest.
Dotty wasted no opportunity for entries and took pictures of her vest on Elvis Presley's bed aboard the Lisa Marie aeroplane at Gracelands; in the hands of the Memphis Police Department and the blades of Wolverine, aka Hugh Jackman in Hollywood, on a cowboy in Dodge City and on a flag pole in Monument Valley.
