BERE Alston Trekkers (BATs) members took part in four events last weekend. On Saturday 16 BATs made the short journey to Newnham Park for Plymouth Harriers inaugural Tory Brook Trails.
The Tory Brook Trails comprised of three events, and 2k run open to all ages from four years-old, 10K race and a 10K cannicross (where people run with their dogs). BATs were represented in both the of the 10K events which were run on the same course, the cannicross starting 10 minutes before.
The course was a mix of open meadow, tracks, woodland trails and paths around the Newnham Estate and included two river crossings – one over a bridge and for the other the runners forded the river.
Debbie Ashton with Fruitloop and Clare Munro with Lilly ran in the cannicross, finishing in third and fourth place respectively. First male BAT in the race was Pete Kenvin with first female BAT being Tanya Argue.
Finishing times for all BATs were as follows: Pete Kenvin 51 minutes 39 seconds, Martin Head 53.19, Paul Ashton 54.37, Debbie Ashton 56.51, Tanya Argue 57.02, Derek Hicks 1.01.30, Lisa Birch 101.32, Matthew Wood 1.04.42, Mel Greaves 1.08.17, Shaun Hingston 1.10.12, Sam Harte-Latremouille 1.10.24, Natasha Hingston 1.11.29, Dominika Nawalany 1.11.50, Kate Medhurst 1.17.07, Hilary Head 1.18.36 and Pauline Cole 1.26.07.
On Sunday BATs took part in three events, the closest being Warhorse 10K, a 10K multi-terrain run start and finishing in Iddesleigh and raising funds for North Devon Hospice. Seven BATs travelled to Iddesleigh for this event: Debbie Ashton, Tanya Argue, Sarah Bartlett, Sam Harte-Latremouille, Yvonne and Derek Hicks and Jim Medhurst.
BAT runners also took part in the Saints Way organised by Purple Gecko Events, another multi terrain run but self-navigating 28miles from Padstow on the North Cornwall coast to Fowey on the South Coast. BATs Lisa Birch, Fran Morgan and Murray Turner were joined by former BATs Laura Hogan and Rachel Wood. The forecast heavy rain held off and Murray Turner forged ahead finishing in a time of 6 hours 07 minutes 59 seconds followed by Lisa Birch, Fran Morgan, Laura Hogan and Rachel Wood who ran together in 7.49.46.
For the third event, solo BAT Andy Cowden took part in the Southport 10k. This was the second year that the event was held by Run North West on a two lap, flat and fast course. In a field of 1,750 runners, Andy finished in a time of 50.30.
