BERE Alston Trekkers (Bats) pulled on their off-road trainers at Bicton, East Devon to take part in the Blister. The event is a 10 mile multi-terrain race on Woodbury Common in East Devon, starting and finishing at Bicton College.
The Bicton Lite is the Bicton Blister's little brother, 4.5 miles with the same start and finish, just less distance on the Commons.
The course was hard going with knee deep bogs and puddles, stony and steep paths, tough field crossings and tree roots to be negotiated along the way and included some long drops which had to be jumped and banks. However, all the Bats made good time with some excellent course personal bests.
First Bat home was Nathan Newton and first lady Bat home, fourth lady overall and third in her age group was Sarah Burns. Laurence Sargeant was third in his age group and ran a course personal best by one minute, Grant Lawrence ran a superb 20 minute personal best and Mike Smith beat his course personal best by eight minutes.
Competiting in his first 10 miler was Phil King who ran as part of a trio with his wife Dotty and club member Julian to finish in a great time.
Running as a lone Bat in the Bicton Lite was Heather Smith.
