CONSERVATIVE A fielded a strong team against bottom of the league Conservative C knowing that they needed at least four points to finish top of the Tavistock Snooker League. However, Wilkinson for the C team took the lead against Con A's Bell midway through the game, demon-strating some fine potting skills to finish a clear winner. After a poor start, the C team's Neale, clearly inspired by Wilkinson's win, put up stern resistance against Babb but lost the match eventually on the final black ball.  Longden then disposed of the C team's Bellamy with consummate ease with several well constructed breaks including one of 20 points to make it 2-1 to the Con A. Carruthers appeared determined to whitewash the C team skipper, Hoare, having scored 40 points before his opponent had a point on the board.  However, Hoare managed some fine snookers before Carruthers took the game.  Finally, Jago for the C team took on Evans and in a close fought game, Evans was the stronger, with one break of 22 points on his way to victory and a 4-1 win for Conservative A. As news was breaking from across the 'square' that West Devon A had dropped two frames to their B team it was time for the Conservative A team to get the 'shots' lined up and celebrate back to back title wins. West Devon A went in to this game knowing that they needed a maximum five points to stand any chance at all of catching Con A at the top of the league. A bright start ensued for the A team as Heathman (senior) made short work of the Welsh challenge from Gilchrist. The West Devon A team soon found though that they could not rely on any 'neighbourly love' from the B Team as Colin Bath had his side level as he completed a personally superb season to secure the coveted scalp of danger man Emptage. Any remaining remnants of title aspirations for the A team evaporated at the hands of Hoar, as he set about totally eclipsing veteran Morris with a blistering display of snooker, including a 22 break for good measure. West Devon A pulled it level as Taylor put in a good shift to beat Rich (senior) followed up by the all too familiar loss from Rich (junior) to the WD A's Kevin Rich to edge the A side into a 3-2 win. By this time news was drifting across the square that Conservative A had won 4-1 so it proved all too little too late. West Devon A though can take comfort from a good performance over the year, not always with their strongest side, in taking the season down to the last game.
