Walter C Parsons cup
Sticker 4
Okehampton Argyle 1
THE score line would suggest that Okehampton bowed out of the Walter C Parsons cup a well beaten side, but on the balance of play and overall chances in the match nothing could be further from the truth.
In fact Argyle had completely dominated the opening 20 minutes with some incisive passes and move football and were unfortunate to fall behind, completely against the run of play, when Jason Rogers seized upon a wayward pass from Jonjo Fellows and raced clear to fire Sticker into an undeserved lead.
Argyle continued to have the lion's share of possession and Roger Bonaparte was unlucky to see his close range effort saved by Sticker's Ryan Holland. However, Bonaparte should have equalised just before the break when he went through one on one with the keeper but delayed his shot which was again saved.
Argyle almost went 2-0 down at the start of the second half when a defensive mix up fell to Jack Bowyer who shot wide and almost immediately, at the other end, Tallan Burns saw his cross headed against his own crossbar by Sticker's Matt Eddy as Argyle went in search of an equaliser.
However, with Sticker's defence holding firm, Argyle's attacks began to lack penetration and they were sucker punched on the hour when Tallan Burns' cross was cleared and ten seconds, two passes and a clinical finish from Jack Bowyer later, they were two down.
Fifteen minutes later and Sticker's third goal was a replica of their second with Bowyer supplying another close range finish off the underside of the crossbar.
Argyle continued to press and Brad Ausden saw his close range effort well saved by Ryan Holland, but they did manage to pull a goal back in the 85th minute when Oli Crimmins crossed to the far post for substitute Ricky Wooldridge to head home. In the closing stages another mix up in the Oke defence allowed Jack Bowyer to slip in for his hat trick and Sticker's fourth.
All in all the final result was harsh on Argyle, who have played far worse this season and won, with the main difference between the teams on an afternoon of few clear cut chances being the clinical finishing of the Sticker strikers.
