TAVISTOCK martial artist Tate Budge competed last week at the International Taekwon-Do Federation World Championships is the U18s third degree black belt patterns category world champion.

The 16 year-old beat opponents from all over the world, including Greece, Canada and Australia.

This is the second world title Tate has won having previously won U16s second degree black belt patterns in Rome in 2014.

Tate has also represented Team UK as part of  the U18’s male multi discipline team who won bronze for team patterns and were crowned world champions in sparring.

Tate’s father David told Times Sport: ‘To win a world title is an amazing achievement but to win two back to back titles in two different divisions really shows that the hard work and dedication Tate has shown over the last two years to be the best has really paid off. As a family we are so proud of him and we would like to thank everyone for their messages of congratulations.

‘As always Tate would like to thank all those involved with TeamTate especially all his instructors who have worked tirelessly with him to help him achieve his dream.’
