Tavistock Men's Firsts 5

Bude 0

TAVISTOCK maintained their impressive start to the season with another three points following this home victory against a Bude side who started the day in fourth place. Tavistock started the game with their usual fast paced, hard pressing attacking hockey.

The home side went in at half time 4-0 up but it could have been a lot more if it had not been for some good saves from the away keeper, some last ditch tackles and forward Simon Fenwick being denied by the post on two occasions.

Tavistock took the lead after determined play by Mount Kelly student Barny Megicks who won possession of the ball before setting up D Stanbury's unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. The home side soon doubled their advantage when Fenwick converted from close range. Megicks was rewarded for his hard work when he flicked the ball past the keeper following a penalty corner to score his eighth goal of the season and give Tavistock a 3-0 lead.

Shortly before half time Fenwick scored his 20th goal of the season from a penalty corner flicked high and right past the Bude keeper. He could have claimed his hat-trick before half time but was denied by the post having flicked high and left from yet another penalty corner.

The second half continued much in the same way as the first with the home side dominating possession and attempts on goal — however they were only able to convert one chance which was coolly taken by Ollie Richards who showed the composure to take the ball around the advancing keeper and slot the ball into an empty goal. Although the visitors created some opportunities in front of goal the back line of Graham, Carr, Wood, S Stanbury, Marchant and Hutchings never looked under pressure.

Man of the match and Tavistock skipper Tom Honey had another top performance in midfield, controlling the game for the home side.
