DESPITE their best efforts Conservative Z in the Tavistock Snooker League, struggled to keep pace with their counterparts in Conservative A and lost by 4-1 frames.
Evans for Con A was initially under threat from Hackney, who started strongly but soon wilted under the pressure and expert safety play of Evans — first blood to the A team.
Next was Jankowski, who tried his best to contain Carruthers of the A team but succumbed to the latter’s sustained and relentless onslaught. Symons for Con Z team played arguably his best game of the season and nearly gained the point against Wiles but despite Symons best efforts Wiles held his nerve and took the frame in an entertaining and watchable match.
Mayors for Con Z gained his team’s only point of the evening in a messy and uncontrolled game against Bell, which could easily have gone either way. Babb of Con A took the initiative from the start in the last frame and gave Hall little or no chance to respond, giving his team the well deserved win.
Tavy A tightened their grip on the league top spot with a comprehensive 5-0 dismantling of Con C.
The nearest the Con C looked like getting a point was the first frame where Davies took Bradley Anderson down to the pink ball before falling.
The rest of the frames were pretty routine fare with Dolan, Evans (27), Dent and Hicks completing the route.
Hicks, in his frame, treated everyone to a pleasing to the eye 53 break.
Second place West Devon A produced a solid 4-1 win over the ‘hot and cold’ Golf A to keep in touch with the leaders.
Golf started brightly with Whitley - doing what no one else has done this season - taking a frame off Kevin Rich in a black ball frame, despite a 29 break from Rich.
It was all downhill from there for Golf, starting with Lawrence securing a hard fought black ball win over Ruth and then Brookes breezing past Watkins. Two further comfortable wins for West Devon came from Heathman and Morris over Pope and Bruty respectively to secure the 4-1 win.
