IN DIVISION one of the Okehampton and District Table Tennis League this week Milton Abbot were at home to Tavistock in a hard fought match.
It finished all square at 5-5 as in the first half thanks to a fine maximum by Ottila Pochat for Milton Abbot. Tim Westcott and Alexandre Leaneso took one each. Roger Bowkett won two for Tavistock, Peter Hicks and Nigel Geldart one each. Peter and Roger won the doubles.
In the game between Okehampton A against Horrabridge A, John Stewart put Horrabridge 1-0 ahead against Steve Tyler. John Squire levelled at 1-1 against Bob Newcome. Steve Madge beat Jill Northey to put Okehampton 2-1. John Stewart levelled at 2-2 beating John Squire. Okehampton then stepped up a gear winning the next five singles and the doubles for a 8-2 win.
Anchorage A were at home to North Wyke A. Colin Brooker did well to beat Xubo Chang in the first. Enrique Cancer Berroya levelled at 1-1 against Malcolm Hopkins and Jill Whitley did well to beat Colin Jones 11-7 in the fifth leg.
Xubo won the next against Malcolm 1-3 to North Wyke. Colin Brooker beat Jill in the next. Enrique won the next two and went on to complete a fine maximum. Malcolm won the next for 3-4 to North Wyke who took the next two singles and the doubles for a 7-3 win for North Wyke.
In division two Moretonhampstead were at home to Anchorage B. Moreton only had two players. Anchorage won 9-1, Ken Underhill saving the whitewash, just beating Dave Vanstone 11-4 in the fifth leg. Dave Wilson and Roger Gilbert both won all their singles.
The snow fell on Dartmoor during the match and Anchorage got stuck and had to return home via the A38 to Plymouth —eventually getting home after a near two hour journey — showing how dedicated they are to table tennis!
Horrabridge played Okehampton C. Josh Parsons and Cameron Brooking won all their matches and raced in to a 8-0 lead before Jill Northey did well to beat Emily Haskell in the last singles. Josh and Emily won the doubles against David Stewart and Alex Cunningham for a 9-1 win.
Okehampton B played Gunnislake. Although Gunnislake won 5-2 Raz Wilson did well to win the two for Okehampton but just lost his third against Michael Kinger 11-5 in the fifth leg.
Okehampton B were then away to North Wyke B in a hard fought match. Both Jill Whitley and Mervin Newman scored maximums.
Raz Wilson pushed Mervin all the way just losing the fifth 13-11 and Maurine Venton took Aidan to a fifth leg decider. Maurine won 11-2 in the fifth. Raz won the last singles. North Wyke won the match 8-2.
