IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league, Anchorage A won their first match beating Okehampton A 6-4, thanks to a fine maximum supported by Malcolm Hopkins with two singles.
In the second, after going down 8-11, 6-11 against Nick Jackson, he won the next three legs 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6. John Down did well to win two singles for Okehampton with Anchorage 5-4 up after the singles. Bob and Malcolm beat Nick and John in a hard fought doubles, winning 9-11, 4-11, 11-8, 14-12 and 11-9 to win 6-4.
For the next division one match the mixtures were at home against Bridestowe, who won 10-0. Karan Stephenson did take Phil Down to four legs as did Martin Rose against Francis Griffiths.
In division two, Anchorage B were at home to Milton Abbot A. It was a competitive game, Dave Vanstone playing in the league for the first time did well to win two singles. The first was against Tim Westcott of Milton Abbot and then won in four legs against Michael Blatchford, losing his last against Ian Osborne.
In four legs in the doubles, Dave Vanstone and Roger Gilbert beat Tim Westcott and Ian Osborne 12-10, 6-11, 9-11, 11-6 and 13-11 for a 7-3 win for Anchorage.
In the next match, new team Walkham were at home to Horrabridge in a hard fought match of four games and went to fifth leg deciders. Miles Pinkney won the first against Dan Rashford 11-6 in the fifth.
Ben Edmunds did well to score a fine maximum for Walkham. Chloe Greenaway scored two singles for Horrabridge who were 5-4 up after the singles. Myles and Ben lost the doubles against Ian and Chloe 8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 7-11 and 5-11 for a 5-5 draw.
The next match, Okehampton were at home to Milton Abbot B. Dick Randell lost the first 12-10, 2-11, 11-9, 8-11 and 20-22 against Harry Barnaby to put Milton Abbot 1-0 ahead, who raced into a 6-0 lead. Mark Ralph did well to pull one back beating Bob Evans 14-12, 11-9, 7-11, 7-11 and 11-7 but Milton Abbot won the next three for a 9-1 win.
In the next match Okehampton C played Moretonhampstead. In the first game Richard Rose lost to Graham Adnitt. In a hard fought game Graham won in five legs 11-9, 4-11, 14-12, 12-14 and 3-1 to put Moretonhampstead 1-0 ahead. Okehampton then stepped up a gear taking the next eight games to lead 8-11.
After the singles Wendy Colin did well to take Ben Bolton all the way, just losing out 12-14, 11-7, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-8. Moretonhampstead won the doubles — Graham Adnitt and Brian Skilton beat Richard Rose and Ben Bolton 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7 and 9-11, Okehampton C winning 8-2.
The last division two match was Okehampton B against Moretonhampstead. Okehampton could only field two players. Ken Underhill put Moretonhampstead ahead against Maureen Venton and Mark Ralph played well in the next just losing out to Graham Adnitt 11-13 in the fourth leg.
Maureen Venton won the only game for Okehampton beating Wendy Colin in the fourth leg to make the score 1-4. Moretonhampstead won the next singles and doubles for a 9-1 win.
