A DELIGHTED 2312 (Tavistock) Squadron Air Cadets have won the Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Athletics for the second year running.

The team fought off competition from 20 other squadrons to retain the Wing trophy at the Wing Championships held in Par in Cornwall.

Team captain Rachael Collard from Callington led the way winning medals in all her individual events.

There was a nail biting finish to the final event when former Tavistock Cadet Reece Day narrowly beat Tavistock's Dan Reid to win the 100 metres relay for St Austell Squadron.

Tavistock Squadron won both male and female competitions to take the overall title.

Team coach was civilian instructor Sue Parkin who said: 'I am really proud of the team.

'All the cadets who came made a contribution towards our winning score. Some in events they were not familiar with to make sure the team won through.'

Eight of the Tavistock cadets have been selected to represent Plymouth and Cornwall Wing in the regional athletics.

The squadron has started its summer programme. New recruits welcome. For details call 01822 612743 or go to its website 2312Squadron.co.uk
