IT WAS seven up for Tavistock's running machine Adam Holland who ran an astonishing seven marathons of 26.2 miles each in seven consecutive days.

Adam, who now lives in Newark, Nottingham, to prepare for his running events, battled poor weather conditions on the last day in the Dawn2Dusk challenge, held between January 20 and 26 at Holt Castle, Holt Heath in Worcester.

Adam, aged 26, was the only one of the competitors to run the whole of the seven days and he completed the whole of the 262 miles in an excellent 32 hours 47 minutes and 3 seconds — with a phenomenal average mile time of 7 minutes 30 seconds — four under three hours.

Adam's finishing times in his seven marathons were 3.02.25sec, 3.03.03sec, 2.56.17sec, 2.57.46sec 2.57.02sec, 2.58.07sec and 3.06.32sec.

Adam said: 'Talk about being one of the hardest marathons I've done in a long time and that's not because my body had done six marathons already but the wind and rain was very hard to run in. In the back on my mind I know all I have to do is finish and that is what I was trying to do. Half way in 1.31.25sec. two cars got me good by driving through the water on the first lap. My top was hard running around in but I was not going to take it off for the second lap as I did not want to get cold. I battled the wind in the second half but kept on running. I was well happy to see the last hill on the way and was looking forward to the home straight. My finishing time was 3.06.32sec which I was well happy with.

Adam told the Times that the last five miles were hard but was just determined to keep on going to the finish.

After a few more big events, including the Jurassic Coastal event and the Wellington Boot 100k in April Adam is now in training for the Brathay 10 in 10 marathons at Lake Windermere, Cumbria in May.

Adam holds the current record of 30hrs 20min and 54secs (at average of 3.02.05) and aims this year to do all 10 marathons in under three hours each.

The Brathay helps vulnerable and disadvantaged young kids and Adam is fundraising for the charity and would appreciate sponsorship for this arduous event.

Adam thanks all his family, friends, fellow club members at Tavistock Athletics Club and sponsors Peter Bazey, Nigel Eadie, Robin Rich and James Mcdowall.

He added: 'I would be honoured if you would sponsor this charity — no matter how much or how little. Thank you.
