TAVISTOCK Amateur Boxing Club’’s Aiden Whiting and Joe Dyke fought this weekend.

Aiden made the journey to the Barton Hill club in Bristol and Joe venturing in to Cornwall at Bodmin ABC’s event.

Aiden was up against Nile Thomas. who had won on a unanimous decision at their last clash on Tavistock’s show. On this occasion Aiden was a much improved fighter and displayed some excellent boxing skill. Although Aiden lost to the taller and heavier opponent by a majority decision, it was a tight contest.

At the Bodmin’s show Joe Dyke was matched against Toby Saunders of Devonport.

Joe was giving away seven kilos weight advantage to his opponent, but they had met at Devonport’s show a month ago where Joe had won on points.

On this occasion Joe showed an improvement in his ability and his taller build helped him again, switching attack from head to body when his adversary covered up. heavy blows were thrown in reply but on this occasion Joe was the better boxer and the referee stopped the contest in the third round. Saunders unable to defend  himself.

Both boxers showed considerable improvement in their performances and are to be congratulated. Tavistock’s Chantel Whiting is in the National Junior Championships in Basildon this weekend contesting the 46kg class.
