THE senior Mount House cricket teams and the Colts A team were both in action against teams from Blundell's School last week. They won one match and lost one, whilst the third was abandoned because of the weather.
Blundell's B team batted first against the Mount House First XI, and struggled to score runs on a lively wicket with the ball swinging both ways. 'Extras' was comfortably their top scorer, as Mount House bowlers Jonty Walliker (3 for 9) and Harry Sale (4 for 6) took full advantage of the conditions. Walliker (34 no) and Sale (24 no) opened for Mount House, and carried their bats to complete a 10 wicket win in just 9 overs.
The Mount House Second XI were put in to bat against Blundell's Under-12 B side on a soggy wicket under steady drizzle. Barker and de Falbe batted sensibly to see off the opening bowlers before D'Entrecasteaux chipped in with some late boundaries, taking their 20-over total to 60 for five. Blundell's started their reply slowly, but their superior batting on a drying wicket, helped by too much leg-side bowling, made the target too easy, and they ran out winners by seven wickets.
In the Colts A match, Blundell's made steady progress, and reached 15 without loss in the first 4 overs before collapsing to 18 for five. Unfortunately the weather deteriorated rapidly and the match was abandoned as the pitch became unplayable, with Blundell's at 43 for six from 12 overs, Sam Hallett having taken four for 10.
