ZEST members are currently training on a Monday night (cycling), Friday night (circuits) and Sunday morning (swimming and running). On Sunday they will be trying to see how far they can swim in one hour and will be aiming to exceed last year's distance. They have a biathlon coming up in March which is made up of a timed swim in a 50-metre pool at Millfield followed by a timed run. They will be hoping to do well and qualify to represent the South West in the national biathlon finals to be held in May. Their triathlon season starts in April. Many of the athletes enter the South West series which is made up of ten events, which can either be a triathlon (swim, cycle, run ) or an aquathlon (swim and run) one of which is taking place in Plymouth in July where the swim will be in the sea. They compete against other competitors from various clubs in the South West, travelling as far as Penzance and Tewkesbury. The Gloucester triathlon has been choosen as a qualifying event for the inter regional championships. The top two girls and boys in each age group (11+) in this race will go on to represent the South West, competing against eight teams from all over England and one team from Scotland and one from Wales later in the year in Crawley.
