SOUTH Zeal have got very little out of encounters with Thorverton over recent years and deserved the win on Saturday.
With Ware missing from defence Hiscock came in at left back and Brimacombe joined Vile up front giving the Thorverton defence problems.
Zeal went ahead after 15 minutes when Vile broke down the left and played a great ball into Brimacombe who coolly beat the Thorverton keeper from close range. The Thorverton attack had plenty of the ball in the first half but Zeal's defence marshalled by Wonnacott never really gave them a good look at goal.
The second half was all Zeal and they increased their lead to two when Smith set up Cann who finished well with a shot from 12 yards. Thorverton then had a 15 minute period where they pressured the Zeal defence and hit the Zeal bar with one attack and missed an open goal several minutes later. However Zeal took control in the last 20 minutes and had several good chances to increase their lead but could not put the ball in the net.
On Sunday Zeal lost to Folly Gate in the Oke cup, Zeal had many regulars missing which gave a few of the subs a chance of a full game. Folly deserved their win but Phil Tyler and Tim Butler came in to the Zeal side and both played well.
Next week away to Westexe meet at Zeal 12-30.
