South Zeal United 5

Exeter University 1

SOUTH Zeal completed their league programme needing a win to ensure promotion.

After a shaky first 15 minutes, during which Adam Cann kept Zeal's hopes alive with several great saves, they took control. Alan Brimacombe lobbed the University keeper to go one up after a great through-ball from Garry Smith. Brimacombe then turned provider and put in an excellent cross that was converted by Henry Bellairs to give Zeal a two-goal half-time advantage.

Zeal increased their advantage to three after a well flighted free kick from Smith found Roger White at the far post, who scored with a great header

University kept playing good football and were rewarded with a goal 20 minutes from time. South Zeal, however, were in full control and it was no surprise to see them score another two goals when Brimacombe and Dave Wooldridge both converted from close range.

Zeal could have won by more but for a great display by the University keeper and an unlucky Smith who crashed a free kick against the visitors' crossbar.

Having lost only five games out of 28 in the league Zeal have had their best season for many a year and look forward to next season with hope and expectation.
