YOUNGSTERS from Okehampton Excelsior Band enjoyed a successful day at the Helston Band 53rd annual solo and quartet contest on November 19.

James Alexander and Edward Haskell were awarded first place in the junior duet category, playing 'Hatikvah' on the cornet. Victoria Isaacs came second in the ten years and under category, playing 'Greensleeves' on the cornet, while Jessica Alexander took third place in the nine years and under category with her performance of 'Aura Lee' on the tenor horn.

The four youngsters expressed thanks to Emily Alexander for her accompaniment, and to Cathy Lovegrove for her hard work coaching the training band and arranging the contest entries.

Okehampton Training Band meet once a fortnight on Thursday evenings between 6.30pm and 7.30pm in the band room on Market Street. New players are always welcome. For more information call Julie Hood on 01837 52806.
