A FULL squad of Tavistock U12s made the journey to Crediton on Sunday, and entertained the spectators with an exciting game. The first half started a bit slowly, but thanks to tries by Charlie and Alec, Tavistock went into half time with ai 12-0 lead.

Tavistock dominated the second half, despite some excellent skills from the Crediton team, who played very positively until the final whistle. They were unlucky not to score but tries from Charlie, Alec and Harry, most of which were successfully converted by Christian, Harry, Charlie and Tom clinched a well deserved win.

CREDITON started the game strongly winning most of the set pieces and took the lead with a try in the corner.

Tavistock tackled and defended well but, despite good breaks from Bernie, Ben and Laurence, were under pressure and struggled to get close to the Crediton line.

A refreshed Tavistock pack came out in the second half , began to dominate play and George scored an early try from the base of the scrum to level the scores. Tavistock continued to win the territory battle with a sensible kicking game and the forwards provided the backs with great space and ball to attack the opposition. Jerome, Callum, Will and Bernie ran in four further Tavistock tries in quick succession before Crediton scored a second consolation try.

DESPITE the cold, the Okes had arguably one of the best matches they have played and against a side previously unbeaten this season. From the start the Okes went in fighting, not showing any mercy to the away side. The boys passed superbly and in their first season of kicking, took full advantage. Despite all their effort, the Okes were unable to touch down leaving the score a level 0-0 at half time.

In the second half Launceston had a couple of close attempts at scoring, but the strong line up made sure they were pushed well clear and out for a scrum. This gave the perfect opportunity for the Okes to make their move, and the constant attack found Joe Mawle placing the ball down for a try. Liam Pyle converted to make it 7-0 to Okehampton. With the final whistle looming Joe found the moment to dive to the try line. Daniel Thorne scored a second conversion for Okehampton.

A VERY competitive match started badly for the Okes as the visitors forged ahead with two tries for an early 10 point lead.

The Okes started to gain confidence after some strong running with Adam Wonnacott at the forefront of many forward rumbles. The hosts reduced the deficit with a score from Leon Horne which was followed by a powerful effort from Gregory Daniel which left the scores tied at the interval.

With the Okes front three consistently driving the opposition off the ball at scrum time, the home side had more possession and territory in the second period; however, Launceston scored with virtually their only visit to the Okes' half to regain the initiative. The Okes got the draw they deserved when the terrier like Simon Moody burrowed over for the equalising score.

A SMALL dedicated  Tavistock squad turned out for the away games against Crediton.

The whole team played a great attacking and passing game.Louie Cherrington , Max Wright and Jasper cameron were outstanding with their tackles. Max Pamplin as hooker had a brilliant day on the field. The best feature of the games was the great team support all over the pitch with 10 out of 13 players scoring.

Okehampton U9s 10

Launceston U9s 10

THE first match was closely fought, with both sides keeping each other at bay for much of the first half. Okehampton were the first to break free, with a much deserved try by Nathan Tomkins. Superb rucking and a strong drive from their own half way line gave encouragement to Okehampton but Launceston soon equalled the score.

George, in his first match, showed a good understanding of the game and contributed with some good play. All of the Okes' team tried hard and put in some excellent tackling with try saving efforts by Nathan Tomkins, Daniel Turney and Imogen Ogborne. A second try came from Kai Middleton after some weaving and darting between the Launceston defence but the opposition scored to make it a draw.

ALTHOUGH Launceston was able to field a new squad, Okehampton seemed to have benefitted from the experience of the first match. They continued to tackle hard, chasing down any Launceston players on the break and did not let their tired legs dampen any effort. The score triers (Nathan 6 and Kai) were well supported throughout by Daniel, Tom M, Tom P, Bradley, Imogen, Harris, Alex, Liam and George.

Okehampton U8s 11 tries.

Launceton U8s 8 tries.

This was an outstanding all round performance by the Oke side inflicted first loss of the season on Launceston.

Tries were scored after breaks by Charlie Glanville, Will Cunningham and Harry Laing-Taylor. Cole Pengelley scored a further two and Joshua Burgoyne added another. Great support play came from Dominic Strugnell, Liam Daintree, Mathew Denning, James Stevens, Daniel Wonnacott and Ben Wharton who ensured Oke retained possesion in attack.

James Close and David Smith put in some great tagging work, halting the Launceton attacks. George Cox created havoc in the Launceston defence with some mazy attacking runs. Saul Holliday picked up any loose ball on the floor to turn defence into attack. The two outstanding performances came from Jake-Taylor who scored three tries and Daniel Tomkins two.

Okehampton U7s 5 tries

Launceston U7s 10 tries

THE Okes' squad showed good heart and enthusiasm against a stronger side. For the Okes two tries were scored by Indie Horn, two by Joe Duffy and one by James Fishleigh.

The score did not reflect some excellent tagging, particularly from Jay Jenkins, Indie Horn and James Hockridge — with strong running by all.
