Launceston U12s 7

Tavistock U12s 35

TAVISTOCK U12s gained a convincing away win against Launceston on Sunday. Both teams played with spirit from the start, with tries from James and Bert, and a Launceston try in response, within the first ten minutes.

Strict refereeing of the enthusiastic Tavistock scrum led to more penalties than the team would have liked, but excellent defending by Tavistock prevented Launceston from capitalising on these.

An accidental pitch invasion from an adjacent game delayed a likely score for Tavistock, but Harry E scored again in the opening minutes of the second half. Charlie ran in two more tries to complete an excellent team performance. All tries were successfully converted by Charlie and Christian, and Josh and Charlie provided the best tackles of the day.

Devonport Services U14s 0

THIS was a very physical game with North Okes defending fiercely.

Zac Ponsford in the Okes' forwards lead from the front and had a solid game. Matt Baker at hooker had another good game.

The opposition found there was no way through Luke Liversidge at scrum half and Will Cooper and Giles Heard in the centre. Josh Bickley was on form and scored two tries, one of which saw him run three quarters of the field side stepping the opposition. Billy Searle converted one try.

It was a real team effort, the forwards putting in a lot of often effort and linking well to the backs. Kieran Lee had a couple of good runs and was unlucky not to score.

In the second half the Tavistock forwards  began to dominate and Josh, driving low, scored to give Tavistock the lead. Great ball from the forwards then gave the backs the opportunity to run and pass resulting in two further tries. Late in the game Callum D surged forward from a quick penalty to increase the lead.

OKEHAMPTON U10s recorded their second win of the season to maintain their perfect start to the year.

From the kick-off they always looked to be the stronger of the two sides they soon found their feet and began to ruck and maul with purpose. After clean possession was won a flowing move saw the ball moved nicely through the hands for Edward McCarthy to be put away on the wing to score the opening try.

The game became more fragmented and the Okehampton rucking a little less purposeful. However, tries were scored at regular intervals with the scorers being Leon Horne, Ollie Arden, Alfie Gillespie and Gregory Daniel.

The defence was excellent with a much higher tackle count than normal with important contibutions coming from Adam Mortimore and Jack Ogbourne.

THE second game allowed Tavistock to stretch their legs and build their confidence as they ran in eight tries to a single try by Launceston.

Freddie Grier Rees and Jude White both scored a number of times using their speed and skill. Cian Benny demonstrated how to score a quick try from a scrum close to the Launceston line and Seamus Kelleher had great courage coming back onto the field after injury to continue to help his team mates. This was a great overall team effort.

Okehampton U8s 22

Teignmouth U8s 9

OKEHAMPTON were in no mood to take any prisoners as they crushed Teignmouth, scoring 22 tries. Teignmouth could not cope with the fast pace set by Okehampton, who attacked in waves and showed great support for one another. Excellent teamwork from Liam Daintree, James Close, Dominic Strugnell, Harry Laing-Taylor and Cole Pengelly led to tries for Ben Wharton (2), Charlie Glanville (4), Matthew Denning (2) and Will Cunningham.

Okehampton were now scoring at will with little opposition from Teignmouth. Further tries came from Daniel Wonnacott (3), Daniel Tomkins (5) and James Stevens (1). Pressure from the Okehampton defence through George Cox and David Smith forced the Teignmouth players to spill the ball, which was seized upon by Saul Holliday (1) and Joshua Burgoyne (3), who were both quickest to the breakdown, and created counter attacks for Okehampton.

Superb tagging and teamwork were the key elements of Okehampton's win.
