TEAMS of youngsters trekked across moorland in an annual bid to raise money for two youth clubs.

Princetown and Horrabridge Youth Clubs took part in the third Moorland Challenge, a police led initiative, walking eight miles from their own club to their opposing youth clubs, spending the night and walking back the next day.

Sgt Dave Anning said: 'It was a very successful event, everybody turned out.

'There were challenges set along the way by the Army, Police, Dartmoor Rescue and other agencies and the kids did a tremendous job. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

'Most kids weren't walkers so didn't have appropriate shoes and equipment; one boy's shoes even wore out on the walk, but he kept going.

'We are now planning a small presentation and a slideshow of photos so the parents can see how they did.'

The total raised for the youth clubs is not yet known, and fundraising is continuing.

Anyone who would like to support the youth clubs can do so by putting donations into collection boxes at Tavistock Police Station, Horrabridge stores or Princetown stores.
