A YOUNG man from Brentor has been presented with a national award in honour of Princess Diana. Oliver Burrows, 17, is the treasurer for Tavistock and District Youth Council where he played a part in setting up the Youth Café in Pixon Lane, Tavistock. He was rewarded with a Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award ? the awards are for pupils aged 12 to 18 who give outstanding service to their school or community, or who have achieved personal development in difficult circumstances. Oliver said he was really pleased with the prestigious award but gave credit to everyone who was involved, saying the café was the work of a whole group of different people. He was nominated by his school, Devonport High School for Boys. Deputy headteacher Sandra Bowden said it was Oliver?s enthusiasm and team spirit which proved significant in moving the café forward. Since the award began, more than 10,000 young people from across the UK have received an award. It is non-academic, unique and flexible, and provides an opportunity for schools to recognise and celebrate the holistic qualities of their pupils.
