A BUSINESS plan outlining a proposed Youth Cafe for Tavistock was recently reviewed at the first meeting of a group set up to oversee the project.
Tavistock Youth Cafe Support Group was formed to provide expertise on various aspects of the scheme, which is being led by the town?s youth council.
Carly Greenway, the group?s chairman, said: ?The new support group is of great importance if we are to keep this project moving forward.
?With these dedicated people on our side, we are really excited about the future of our Youth Cafe.?
The meeting included a discussion on potential premises, with the suggestion of a portable cabin for temporary or permanent use.
The possibility of a pilot project to assess the cafe?s viability was also discussed.
The support group recently visited a youth cafe in Ilfracombe, and intend to inspect one in Truro soon.
Members of the youth council travelled to Dawlish to see a similar scheme in action there.
Youth worker Anne Johnson said: ?The project seems to be moving forward really well and we now need to find suitable premises and a format we are happy with.
?It?s one of the most exciting schemes I?ve been involved with in my 25 years as a youth worker.?
She added that the next stage would be applying for funding for the cafe, which will be run by and aimed at young people in Tavistock.
