IT WAS great to see recently in your columns news of the success of Tavistock?s Sam Calcutt in the Great Britain Masters Swimming championships. Well done, Sam!
This is particularly noteworthy because swimmers from Devon have been seriously handicapped in the past by lack of state of the art training facilities in the county. Fortunately that is about to change later in the year with this council?s opening of a spanking modern pool in its new Parklands Sports Centre in Okehampton.
However, aren?t you selling Masters Swimming itself a bit short? You mention correctly it caters for mature swimmers up to 30-34 years of age, but the Western Counties ASA also offers events in five year age bands up to 80-84 and 85+. You are never too old to swim, and we have masters Swimming Sections active in both Okehampton and Launceston.
So if you are a mature swimmer and miss the fun, fitness and competition that you?ve enjoyed from your sport in the past, do ask for more details at your local pool.
