NOMINATIONS are being sought for this year?s West Devon Mayor?s Awards, a scheme which marks the achievements of people, organisations and businesses in the borough. The awards fall into two categories ? to a young person under the age of 18 and to an organisation, business or person over the age of 18. Cllr Christine Grills, mayor of West Devon and one of this year?s judges, said: ?This is a great opportunity for people to nominate someone they know who has worked tirelessly to achieve their ambition or goal, or it could be that person who works quietly and painstakingly to help others less fortunate than themselves, or someone who attains better facilities in their community.? Last year, the young person?s award was given jointly to national under 16 boys? field archery champion Ashley Cackett of Tavistock and chairman of Tavistock Youth Café group David Johnson. The second award went to Colin Harris of Lewdown for his work in the community. Nominations for this year?s awards must be received by Friday January 28, 2005 ? the winners will be announced shortly after.
