Tavistock U13 12 Okehampton U13 5 THESE two well-matched sides went at it toe-to-toe on Sunday morning producing a very exciting game of rugby. Okehampton?s well drilled forwards gave little away arriving first and in numbers at the breakdown. This is an area of the game that Tavistock needs to improve. However one of the home side?s strengths is in tackling and some excellent solo examples came from Sam Lyndsey, Callum Thompson and number eight Mark Friend. Flanker James Lockley sidestepped past the Okehampton defence to run in Tavistock?s first try from half way. Both sets of forwards continued to battle it out in the middle of the park until second row Dan Oner found a gap and the pace to break through to score between the posts with Josh Leeson providing the kick for the additional two points. Okehampton camped in the Tavistock twentytwo for the remainder of the half but failed to cross the line. This heavyweight contest was uninterrupted all through the second half. The stalemate was finally broken with a text book forward try from Okehampton when a perfectly formed maul setup 5 metres out pushed over for Eric Bright to touch down. The whole match was a great credit to both players and coaches of both sides. This week Tavistock travels to Crediton. The fast pace saw continual action by both halves with Tavistock getting the measure of their opposition in the second half. On two occasions Tavistock were denied a score at the corner flags adding to the excitement of the well fought contest.
