Although almost all the swimmers were swimming up by at least one age group and gave the opposition a good run for their money.
Richard Freedman was on top form, taking three individual firsts in the boys' 15/u 50m fly, 50m free and 50m back. Gareth Williams won the men's open 50m free convincingly, following with a first in the open 50m fly.
In the 50m back event, Rachael Kelly clinched first in the 13/u with Kirsty Best touching first in the 11/u. Caroline Ball, despite being only 12 years old, had a convincing win in the 15/u back. Ross Mallin had tough opposition in the 11/u 50m free but just touched first. Amy Warnett opened up an early lead in the girls' 13/u breast which she maintained to the end of the event.
Michael Best, swimming in the boys' 13/u event had stronger opposition but saw them off, swimming with determination to the end of the race to touch first. Matthew Lake swimming in the men's open 50m breast and Christopher Ralph in the 15/u 50m breast both took early leads, winning their events convincingly.
Sam Broome was determined not to let the opposition take first in 50m fly and Freddy Luesby and Will Crocker showed the opposition a clean pair of heels respective 13/u 50m free events.
Rebecca Mills, competing in the ladies' open 50m fly although only 11, narrowly missed taking first place.
The men's open team of Paul Dunstan, Richard Freedman, Matthew Lake and Gareth Williams stormed to victory in both the 1 x 25m free and 4 x 25m relays. The boys' 15/u relay team of Sam Broome, Richard Freedman, Sebastian Lee and Christopher Ralph were also unbeatable as they took first in both the 4 x 25m free and 4 x 25m medley relays.
Rachael Kelly, Freddy Luesby, Rebecca Mills and Tamar Preston took an early lead in the girls' 13/u 4 x 25m relay which they extended towards the finish of the race. Freddy, Rebecca, Tamar and Amy Warnett showed the opposition a clean pair of heels in the 13/u freestyle relay with strong swims.
Not to be eclipsed, the boys' 13/u team of Michael Best, Sam Broome, Will Crocker, Sebastian Lee also took first.
Millie Chinn, Ellen Megicks and Matthew McNamara were representing Tavistock for the first time and swam extremely well as did other team members Violet Taylor, Tom Crocker, Holly Chinn, Alice Warnett, Hannah Ball, Lauren Cooke, Matthew Taylor and Jessica Cooke some of whom were just pipped at the post for first places. Thanks to Rachael Warnett and Paul Chinn for all their hard work coaching the swimmers and special mention must go to Freddy Luesby for her enthusiastic support on poolside.
On Sunday evening the club had a Wet and Wild Fun Night, sponsored by Meadowlands Swimming Pool, our thanks to Rob Whitehead, pool manager. It was an enjoyable way to end the season, culminating in a game of water-polo.
At the end of the session club chairman Karen Ball presented Thomas Heinze with a club hat, T-shirt and card signed by all the swimmers. Thomas, who has been with the swimming club for a year during his stay in Tavistock, was leaving to return home to Germany.
