Camborne RFC U14s 17
Okehampton RFC U14s 21
THIS competitive affair was played on the excellent surface of the Camborne School of Mines ground.
The early part of the first half was evenly contested with the Okes gaining territorial advantage with determined and aggressive defence.
The first half deadlock was broken with an inspirational piece of running from full back Rob Fishliegh who took a clean catch from a clearing kick well into his own half.
He eluded several tackles and burst through a gap to run half the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Captain Rob North converted.
Following great pressure from the Okes, Camborne broke away and from a few lapses in concentration, their hard running Number 8 burst through close to the line to score a try that was converted.
The early stages of the second half saw the Okes outplayed in most aspects. The home side duly capitalised on the lapse in concentration and scored with a well taken winger?s try which was unconverted.
This proved to be a wake-up call for the visitors who again imposed the kind of pressure exhibited in the first half on their hosts. After a prolonged period of pressure, centre Josh Moshman burst through to take several defenders with him over the line to score. North converted to regain the lead at 12-17.
The Okes maintained pressure and from a series of driving rucks the back row of Luke Wonnacott, Richard Barrington and Jon Harwood linked superbly with a series of interpassing.
Barrington delivered the final pass out of a tackle for Harwood to run under the posts to score one of the team?s tries of the season which North again converted .
The remainder of the game saw the home side showing determined efforts to get back into the game. These were rewarded with an unconverted try that brought the scores to 17-21 to the Okes.
This was the final curtain on the U14s season which has seen the team develop both as a group of individuals but more importantly as a team. They have played some excellent rugby, especially in the second half of the season and have finished with a record of: Played 25, Won 19, Lost 5. Points for 805, points against 257.
At the recent awards evening Josh Moshman was presented with the player of the year award with Jon Harwood being awarded as the most improved player of the year. Captain Rob North is also to be commended for his excellent leadership and developing an excellent team spirit.
