PRACTICE has paid off for budding young musicians at Mount House School, Tavistock.

After auditioning against orchestral players from across the country, eight youngsters have been awarded places on this year?s IAPS orchestral courses.

Nichola Hawkins, Hannah Sainsbury and Stuart Hoddinott will play with the training orchestra; Alice Toynton will play in the junior concert band and Helen Hoddinott, Lucy Manning and Holly Walker will be part of the junior string orchestra.

The courses help the children develop their ensemble skills and meet like-minded players from around the country.

Perhaps the most impressive achievement is that of George Tetley, who has not only secured a place in the IAPS national symphony orchestra, but has also won a coveted music exhibition place at Eton College. George was selected as one of the top musicians in their intake for next year. George plays trumpet and piano and his work has been described as showing musicality and technique beyond his years.
