A YOUNG man was taken to hospital with a cut to his head following an alleged attack in the Meadows in Tavistock.

Police said the young man and his girlfriend were visiting from Plymouth and were sitting in the bandstand at 6.45pm on August 14 when they were approached by five or six young males.

'It appears that an unprovoked assault occurred on the young lad and he was punched and kicked in the head,' said PC Rick Hartigan. 'He was taken to the nearby swimming pool for assistance and then to hospital where he was treated for a cut to his head.'

Police have descriptions of two males they believe may have been involved in the incident. One was white, aged about 17, approximately 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build and with medium length wet look curly hair. He had a faint moustache and his teeth that were visible were crooked and decayed. He was wearing brown tracksuit bottoms and a blue and a brown short-sleeved shirt.

The second male was about 14, 5ft 5ins tall, of small build with a blond shaved head and wearing a blue tracksuit with a matching blue baseball cap.

Police would also like to trace a third male who they do not believe was involved in the assault but was present.

He was aged about 16, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, of thin build with dark rimmed round glasses and wearing a blue tracksuit and baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Rick Hartigan at Tavistock Police Station on 08452 777444.
