Carlsberg South Western League Callington Town 3 Plymouth Argyle 2 THE continuing shoots of improvement around Callington continued to flourish as the young guns of Callington saw off the even younger guns of Plymouth Argyle. Callington took a shock lead over the league leaders inside the first five minutes when Gareth Jones forced a mistake out of the Argyle defence to fire home a loose ball from 12 yards. Town held their lead until midway through the half when the game once again exploded with three goals in a little over 90 seconds. First, on 25 minutes Plymouth were awarded a free kick and Ryan Dickson fired over the wall and into the top left hand corner of Town?s goal. Direct from the restart, Callington were back on the attack, and to the utter amazement of the home fans Danny Murdoch cut in from the right before shooting on the turn to beat Lloyd Saxton in the Argyle goal to regain the lead. Within a minute, Dickson gained his second to level matters. The second half was never going to live up to the amazing pace of the first, but, with 15 minutes to go Jones added his second and Town?s third in a goalmouth melee to put the home side ahead for the third time. Callington will be looking to take this great victory and use it to continue their impressive start to the league season with a visit on Tuesday to Tavistock in the Carlsberg League. Palladium Builders East Cornwall League Div One St Stephen 2 Callington Town 3 WHILE the first team were involved in their heroics at home to Argyle, the second team held off a spirited St Stephens team to record their first victory of the season. Darren Benfield hit a brace to go along with Ross Axley?s strike to give them the points. Following a tough opening to the season, the tough games come thick and fast, beginning with Tuesday night?s Division One trip to local rivals Tavistock (7.30pm) and then on Saturday they have the return fixture against St Stephen kicking off at 2.30pm at Ginsters Marshfield Parc. Finally, after a week off, the third team resume their Duchy Two campaign with a home game against Lanivet on Saturday at the Parc 2 with a 2.30pm kick off.
