LEWDOWN Young Farmers attended a presentation evening at Launceston St John Ambulance Hall in Westgate Street recently.

A cheque for £610.62 was handed to St John Ambulance representatives ? the proceeds of the harvest supper held on October 18 last year. This is an annual event from which all money raised goes to a chosen charity.

Tony Taplin was invited as guest of honour and gave a talk on the work of St John in Launceston.

Charles Smith, superintendent, said the division felt highly honoured to be chosen as the young farmers? charity for the year. Without generous donations Launceston St John would find it difficult to exist, as it relied solely on charitable donations from the local community.

With the money raised the young farmers have donated a pulseoxemetre ? an electronic machine that measures oxygen levels in a patient?s blood.

This valued piece of equipment will help St John Ambulance continue to serve the local community.
