YOUNGSTERS from Okehampton will get the chance to meet and talk to a soldier and make their own medals at a fun day at the Museum of Dartmoor Life later this month.

The fun day for boys and girls being organised by the museum is suitable for those aged 6 to 12.

In the morning, on Thursday, August 21, there will be a walk to Okehampton Castle, a chance to look around the historic site followed by a picnic lunch.

In the afternoon, the children will head back to the museum where they will be able to meet a soldier, see his medals and ask questions.

The children will then be able to have a go at making their own medal, and will be able to get ideas from viewing the extensive medal collection in the museum.

The emphasis is on fun, but the youngsters will be taught that medals are not just for soldiers in times of war, but can be for mums and dads or brothers and sisters too.

The activities will run from 10.30am to 4pm. Children are asked to bring a packed lunch, wear suitable shoes and bring a waterproof coat.

Numbers are limited so for further information and to book a place contact Jenny or Maurie at the museum on 01837 52295.
