CHILDREN in the Tavistock area are being asked to ignore a chain letter which claims to be an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records. Officers believe it is prank by some older children and are urging youngsters not to send it on to their friends. The letter says that children started the letter in 1996 and if they keep it going to winter 2008 it will be published in the Guinness Book of Records along with the children's names who took part. It asks children to copy the letter and send it to seven friends but they must send it by post because the post office is monitoring who breaks the chain. Crime prevention officer Angie Frost said no-one at the Guinness Book of Records or the Post Office was aware of any such letter. 'There is no underlying worry — it is just falsely leading children to think there is a record attempt going on,' she said. 'There is no way the post office can monitor it and kids are just passing it on to kids, so nobody is getting hold of children's details. It probably started off as a prank and children passing it on is just perpetuating it.'
