A TAVISTOCK College student has won a place as a member of the prestigious National Youth Theatre (NYT) after his drama teachers encouraged him to audition.
GCSE drama student Rob Hill will spend two weeks in Greenwich this summer, training with other talented young actors at Laban — the UK's first conservatoire of music and dance.
Rob said: 'There were about 30 of us auditioning and two NYT officials took a workshop. We then had separate monologue auditions where we performed pieces we'd prepared previously. I did a monologue from Frozen by Bryony Lavery.
'It was amazing; it was like a once in a lifetime opportunity. In the summer I'll spend two weeks in Greenwich, staying in student accommodation, and go along for acting and dancing classes. It looks really good when applying for drama schools.'
Rob said he wanted to become an actor and would stay at Tavistock College to take A-levels including Performance Studies. He played a key role in the last senior school play — Blood Brothers — and performed in the previous year's production of Jack The Ripper.
Rob is the latest in a line of Tavistock College students who have been accepted into the NYT. Former students Ella Evans, Richard Brindley, Matt Goad and Fiona Roberts all took part in their renowned training courses.
Current student Holly Harrison has just returned from a London residential. She secured a place in the NYT last year.
