preparations are well in hand at Meavy for the summer flower show.
Meavy Garden Society offers each visitor the opportunity to become a judge of flowers and plants at their summer flower show on Saturday August 9.
All visitors receive a voting slip, to select their personal choice of the best entry in each of the 16 classes. There are competitions for cut flowers, shrubs, pot plants, flower arrangements and vegetables; and this is the second year of a class for three varieties of herbs growing in a container.
Each class has a trophy for the winner to hold for a year. The counting of visitor's votes by computer is assisted by Tim Lambie, whose business chezvouspc.com, is based in the village. To encourage members to enter more exhibits the Gordon Cross Trophy, in memory of a past president of the society, is awarded to the person with the most highly placed exhibits in the whole show.
Light refreshments are available, plants from local gardens will be on sale, and there will be a raffle.
The show is at Meavy Parish Hall, just across the village green from the Royal Oak Inn, on Saturday August 9 from 1pm. There is free parking at the rear of the hall and entry to the show is £1 per adult. The presentation of trophies is at 4.30pm.
