A RACE NIGHT next month will kick off the celebrations for Callington Young Farmers' Club's 70th anniversary.

The event will be held in Callington Town Hall on October 15 at 8pm and tickets, at £7, include a pasty and a pudding.

There will also be a dinner and dance next March, a garden party in May a live music and barbecue event in June and a harvest festival.

A jubilee committee has been set up to organise the calendar with at least one member from every decade of the club.

Secretary of the jubilee committee Angie Jack said: Callington YFC is going from strength to strength and is currently a very strong and active club.

She said people made lifelong friends in the young farmers' club and many had met their future husbands and wives as it was known for being 'the best dating agency around'.

'We are all grateful to those who formed the club nearly 70 years ago,' she said. 'We would like to form an archive of photos, documents, videos etc covering the history of the club.

'If anyone has anything they think should be included in this and would be willing to lend us a copy please let me know.'
