KELLY College has not only produced an excellent 1st VII netball team this season, it can look to the Year 7 squad for the future of its netball stars.
Unbeaten this term, the pressure was on against Wellington last Wednesday. Anastasia Steed is developing into a very promising netball player. She was player of the match as defence and played Goal Shooter, providing some brilliant shots.
The team put on a performance of champions throughout. At half-time, the score to Kelly was 7-2.
No matter how hard Wellington fought it was to no avail and Kelly went on to win 17-5.
The Year 8 A team started their game in a scrappy fashion, forgetting all the hard work that had been done in training. After this frustrating start,
by the end of the second quarter, Wellington were leading 9-2. Thereafter, Kelly settled to some hard work with Frankie Murphy and Nicolle Linney helping to turn the game around.
With positive teamwork and superb interceptions, they pulled back in the third quarter to draw level.
In the final quarter, they dug deep and tried to hold on to each of their centre passes. They began to chip away at Wellington and went on to win 14-12, thanks to their determination and superb shooting by captain Hannah Paull and Fiona Thomas.
