THIS concerns those who live in the centre of Tavistock, in particular Bank Square, Market Street, King Street, Bannawell Street and West Street. I wonder if the people living in this area are as fed up with the late night noise, mess and vandalism as I am. Until now very little can be done about this but I am told the new law will mean that after November 24, the licenses of the late night eating and drinking places will be subject to review if they are the cause of disturbance etc. In the meantime many of these places are applying for extensions. Whilst I am not opposed to a quiet drink after hours, allowing the take-away food shops to stay open even later only encourages the hooligans to stay round the streets. One of the places has applied for a license until 3am and I am told by the licensing department of West Devon Borough Council that if there is no opposition this is likely to be granted. So all those who do not want the situation to get worse please pick up your pen as I have and write to: Mr J Burdus, Licensing Department, West Devon Borough Council, Kilworthy Park, PL19 0BZ. There are about 21 days in which to do so. Name and address supplied
